Client Business Challenge

With operations in nine countries and clients such as motion picture and television studios and video and DVD distribution companies, a media group turned to M² for an experienced IT systems consultant to conduct an analysis of the company's network infrastructure.

M² Approach

Working with the client, M² assessed factors such as technical skills and experience as well as the client's corporate culture and reporting structure in developing a consulting solution.  Since the client's staff was relatively inexperienced, a senior-level consultant with strong mentoring skills would be the best fit for the engagement. Previous financial analysis and business-case development experience would also be essential. Other requirements included:

  • Detailed working knowledge of the client's networking technology
  • 15+ years of experience building and supporting large corporate network infrastructures
  • Ability to interact effectively with IT staff as well as senior management
  • Understanding of network security issues, and ability to develop risk assessment analysis and solution set
  • Knowledge of business continuity policies in a large organizations
  • Familiarity with IT best practices in the entertainment industry

Within days of receiving the client's call, M² presented a consultant who met all of the engagement requirements. Because his experience included IT management for one of the company's clients, the consultant was familiar with the business and the system needs.  

Deliverables

  • Assess current state of the corporate network.
  • Report any security and/or networking issues and recommend proper remediation.
  • Design and build a company networking strategy, including a detailed implementation timetable.
  • Provide a roadmap for installation, upgrade, operation, control, maintenance, and effective use of the required equipment.

Results

The M² consultant took immediate action to mitigate the security risks to the client's network. He designed an IT systems infrastructure plan for the client's multiple locations and trained permanent staff to effectively install and maintain the equipment. He also authored a comprehensive business continuity plan for the company.
